I studied with Tracy for several years, and as someone with little to no natural musical acumen, I am thoroughly impressed with how solid of a grasp I now have on the guitar and music in general as a byproduct of his instruction. Tracy’s comprehensive approach to musical education has provided me with the resources to develop my playing to a very satisfying degree. As his student I covered the fundamentals of music theory, song learning/writing, proper and efficient playing techniques, improvisation, ear training, reading music, and a myriad of other guitar essentials. Moreover, I am now familiar with a variety of playing styles including: rock, heavy metal, blues, jazz and classical. Tracy conveyed all of the aforementioned knowledge in a lucid manner that helped me to appreciate the value of an encompassing musical education, all while catering to my specific interests and challenging me to develop my own personal creativity. If you genuinely desire to master your instrument, then Tracy is your man. Whatever you want to learn, he will teach you, and in a way that will maximize your musical competency. Eric Tope
My name is John and I've been playing guitar for nearly 7 years. And even as a casual learner, I'd say I've come a long way under Tracey's guidance. In the time that I've been taking lessons I've gone from a simple beginner who couldn't make head or tail out of an eighth note; to an adequate player who knew the difference between harmonic and pentatonic scales. Every time I see him, Tracy is always in a good mood. His hilarious jokes and interesting stories never end. As a teacher, he can make even the most difficult musical concepts seem understandable, which is no easy feat. I don't think I would have ever learnt to read music as well as I do now without his help. Thanks Tracy!
"Tracy Kimbrell was one of the founders of my life as a musician and songwriter. He never boxed me into a certain style or genre but gave me the freedom to learn and a foundation of knowledge that I use everyday." Jordan Lawhead 2011
I have been taking banjo lessons from Tracy for one year now. While I have owned my banjo for several years, and tried to teach myself to play, it was not until I began taking lessons from Tracy that I felt I was making any progress. What I appreciate about Tracy's teaching is his emphasis on fundamentals. On day one we began literally with naming the strings on the banjo. Week by week we build on fundamentals until they come together and become music! While, after one year of lessons, I don't consider myself a banjo virtuoso, I am able to entertain myself (and occasionally others) with my playing. I also do see the day coming where I can call myself a skilled banjo player. Ron Skinner
I've been learning how to play guitar from Tracy for about 5 to 6 years. One thing I enjoy about learning from Tracy is that he knows a lot about basically all kinds of music. So, whatever music you're interested in, he'll try his best to teach it to you in a way that you can understand. For example, I'm a metal head, so I've had him teach me all the Metallica songs, and Pantera licks and so on. And not just playing songs on guitar, but also making your own songs. I like to sing a lot, and play guitar, so a couple times he's helped me work on riffs for my own songs and then sounding out the notes.I'd say deciding to have Tracy as a guitar teacher was a really great idea. And it's been a great six years. Cody Byas
I took banjo lessons with Tracy. He is a great instructor and is willing to adapt to my needs, style and preferences. Tracy taught me to make music, not just play notes. It is evident when you first sit down with him that he is extremely knowledgeable in terms of music, and his knowledge is contagious. In addition he is very patient and adapts to my occasional frustrations, sets clear goals and ensures progress. He also makes the learning process fun by keeping it light-hearted and by letting you pick the songs you want to play. Having never played an instrument before teaming up with Tracy he made the transition into picking an easy one by starting with the building blocks of music and I have certainly seen progress. I’d definitely recommend Tracy for anyone who likes to jam! Gerrit Mack
I am Nicole Hoke. I am 12 years old and have been taking guitar lessons from Tracy for 3, going on 4 years. Some of the things that I enjoy about Tracy is that he lets you express your feelings and creativity through music. He also encourages you to do your best and always try your hardest. No matter what instrument you play, Tracy will make sure you understand everything he teaches you. He's fun, cool, understanding, and has an awesome Mohawk.
